Albis Quartett
About us
The Albis String Quartet takes its name from the place where the four ensemble members are based: Magdeburg on the Elbe (Latin: albis). Sophie Tangermann founded the quartet in 2020 with the intention of recording and premiering in concert the works of her grandfather, Klaus Fischer-Dieskau.
In autumn of 2020, this resulted in a CD recording, which contains two of Klaus Fischer-Dieskau’s string quartets (No. 1 and No. 4). In the following year, the 4th Quartet received its world premiere as part of a festive concert celebrating the 100th anniversary of the composer’s birth.
In its current lineup, the quartet consists of distinguished specialists in chamber music. The musicians feel equally at home with chamber music of the 20th and 21st centuries as well as with works from all other periods of the quartet repertoire, approaching each piece with passion.

“[…] Und die Musik? Die beiden jeweils dreisätzigen Quartette zeigen einmal mehr, dass die Auflösung des Tonalen in der Nachkriegszeit nur eine Option war. Das erste Quartett knüpft gefühlt bei Brahms an, erweist sich allerdings als viel klassizistischer in Struktur und Sprache. 32 Jahre später klingt dann vieles linearer, auch spritziger, und doch erkennt man immer die harmonischen Bezugspunkte. Ob es eine Fortsetzung geben wird? Falls ja, werde ich mit Sicherheit reinhören!”
